Liver Hemangiomas: A Wide Range of Management from Observation to Hepatic Transplantation
نویسندگان
چکیده
Hepatic hemangiomas are the most common benign primary tumors of the liver. Although they are usually incidental findings during imaging studies of the abdomen performed for other reasons, hemangiomas warrant therapy if they are causing significant symptoms.Clinical presentation of hemangioma may mimic that of hepatocellular carcinoma. Furthermore, radiologic features on computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging may not be typical for hemangioma and can be confused with hepatocellular carcinoma. The management of a large (>10 cm) hepatic hemangioma is controversial. Moreover, the management of a large asymptomatic lesion is not clear-cut. In the present study, we reviewed the clinical approach to hemangiomas and the management, from observation to hepatic transplantation. *Corresponding author Ethem Unal, Department of General Surgery, Umraniye Training and Research Hospital, Elmalikent, 34660 Istanbul, Turkey, Tel: 90-532-258-4917; Email: [email protected]

Hepatic hemangiomas: subtype classification and development of a clinical practice algorithm and registry.
PURPOSE Hepatic hemangiomas, though histologically benign, may be associated with significant morbidity and mortality in afflicted infants. The literature presents much confusion regarding the natural history and treatment options for hepatic hemangiomas. Clinical manifestations range from asymptomatic self-limiting lesions to congestive heart failure associated with high-volume vascular shunti...

Propranolol was first used in 2008 to treat hemangioma; its efficacy and safety have since changed the classical treatment indications. Infantile hepatic hemangioma presents as a spectrum of clinical conditions varying from simple asymptomatic lesions to lethal complications. Tufted hemangioma and Kaposiform hemangioendothelioma are congenital vascular tumors that lead to Kasabach-Merritt syndr...
متن کاملSurgical management of giant hepatic hemangiomas: complications and review of the literature.
BACKGROUND Hepatic hemangiomas are the most common benign hepatic tumors, and they are usually asymptomatic with normal liver function. When hepatic hemangiomas reach 4 cm, we define them as giant hemangiomas. Treatment options for giant hemangiomas are observation, surgical resection, and transcatheter arterial embolization. The aim of this study was to identify the risk factors for surgical c...
متن کاملCoexistence of Pericardialand Hepatic Hemangiomas
Pericardial hemangioma is very rare and their coincidence with other visceral hemamgiomas is exceptional. We are reporting a 72-year-old man with an incidentally discovered pericardial hemangioma during coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) and mitral valve replacement surgery and a prior history of multiple hepatic cavernous hemangiomas. This case has been reported due to its extreme rarity. To ...
متن کاملOrthotopic Liver Transplantation for Etanercept-Induced Acute Hepatic Failure; a case report
The occurrence of hepatotoxicity following etanercept (tumor necrosis factor-alpha antagonist) prescription, has been studied well. However, an acute hepatic failure leading to liver transplant as an adverse effect of this drug has not been reported in the literature. In this article, we are going to present a case of acute liver failure followed by liver transplantation, in a 32 years old man ...
